WE NEED YOUR HELP MORE THAN EVER!

PEACEFUL PATHS Office was destroyed by an overnight  fire on Wednesday,February 25,2009. (full article)

Peaceful Paths Domestic Abuse Network begins recovery from devastating fire.Temporary space and community support aid local agency in recovery efforts

Gainesville, FL:  One week following the total loss fire at the outreach offices of Peaceful Paths Domestic Abuse Network, the local agency that aids victims of domestic violence is on the their own path to recovery. Through the generosity of the community, the agency anticipates opening the temporary site to the public on Wednesday March 11, and will begin outreach groups on Monday, March 9, 2009.

The temporary offices of the outreach staff are located at 4703 NW 53rd Ave, Ste. B2, two miles west of their former location in the Bristol Park office plaza, directly behind the Hunter’s Crossing shopping plaza. Dr. Theresa B. Harrison, Executive Director, states, “This space will allow us to see victims for relocation assistance, one-on-one counseling, and crisis intervention.  Support groups, parenting classes, and children’s groups will be held on the same schedule as before, but in new locations.”  Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evening groups and Wednesday and Thursday daytime groups20will take place at Trinity United Methodist Church education building at 4000 NW 53rd Ave. Wednesday evening groups will take place at the Northwood YMCA, 5201 NW 34th Street.  For more information, please call 352-377-5690.   Hotline numbers continue to operate normally at 377-8255 and 800-393-7233.

The goal is to have the facility reopened by December 1, 2009, and the board estimates that nearly $100,000 will have to be raised
to complete the project.

There are several ways that people can get involved in helping the agency in rebuilding efforts. On Thursday, April 16th, the Mission Makeover Reveal Party will take place at the Tioga Town Center, 5:30- 8:00 pm. Tickets are $30 each or $50 a couple and include guest chef hors d’oeuvres, wine and beer from Dionysus Wine Bar, live music, and a silent auction.  The main event is the reveal of Kalisha, a victim given an extreme makeover by the four event partners, Sadove Cosmetic Surgery, Dermacare Laser and Skin Clinics, Tower Dental Associates, and Salon 119.  Call 331-4558 for tickets.   In addition to this event, donations are being accepted several ways.
Donations can be made online at www.peacefulpaths.org,  can be made at the Thrift Store, located at  2131 NW 6th Street, or mailed to PO Box 5099, Gainesville, FL 32627.

The agency continues to have a few immediate needs beyond cash donations.  Since all food and supplies for outreach clients were destroyed, the agency is in need of gift cards for food stores, general merchandise stores, and gas stations.  These will meet immediate needs of victims and their children without needing storage space that the agency no longer has available.

For more information on how to help, please contact Dr. Harrison at 377-5690 or theresah@peacefulpaths.org.
